In order to guide the Trust's work in managing equality, diversity and inclusion, we have adopted the following objectives.
In accordance with the Equality Duty, these are a legal requirement to cover a four year period and may be subject to review.
Please see our other equality and diversity pages on this website, for information about how the Trust brings to life these objectives.
April 2016 update: The Trust has taken steps to ensure the expectations of the public sector equality duty are being met. There is an active equality and diversity steering group, chaired by the Chief Nurse. This group monitors EDS (see elsewhere in this section of the website) and is currently awaiting the latest information for comparative analysis with the baseline for the new workforce race equality standard (WRES). The group is involving staff with different protected characteristics to identify and help manage inclusion for all patients and staff.
This Trust’s equality objectives are continuing, and are as follows:
The services we provide for patients and carers will be fully inclusive of difference and there will be no barriers for any of the protected characteristic groups in accessing and using our services. Our understanding and appreciation of these differences will be sufficient to ensure it makes an actual and positive difference to patient health outcomes.
MEHT will be a safe and inclusive place to work for all staff, irrespective of difference and with no barriers to recruitment, inclusion, development and progression for any of the protected characteristic groupings. This will be measured by analysis of staff survey feedback, WRES analysis and also from less formal feedback as it occurs.
The Trust will develop best practice in the management of equality, diversity and inclusion, enabling the other two objectives to be met. In particular this will mean that MEHT develops effective consultation and engagement on these issues with workforce and service users across all the protected characteristics and their feedback will be the key measure of success.
