Following the previous use of a single equality scheme, the Trust has now adopted the Department of Health’s EDS (equality delivery system) as a framework for recording and planning actions to build inclusion. Please see separate tab on the menu to access the current EDS framework.
During 2011 and the early part of 2012, the Trust has worked with neighbouring NHS trusts to help create opportunities for a wide spectrum of people to say what they think about the way the Trust approaches issues of equality and inclusion. By and large, people felt positively towards the organisation but, for example, felt more active attention should be given to ensuring that people with sensory impairment are not disadvantaged, and that more comprehensive awareness of age and disability would be a good idea. People had an opportunity to say these things, and more, at an event held on site in September 2011 and in another held in central Chelmsford in January 2012.
The Trust is a regular participant in established community forums and meetings with different parts of the community, such as the Essex County Council Disability partnership network forum, the visual disability planning group and (in the recent past) the Essex Pride festival organising committee.
An East of England regional meeting was designed, organised and hosted by the Trust in March 2011. This event brought together speakers and participants from community organisations and professional groups, to discuss how to create more opportunity for involvement to those in under-represented groups.
