Staff support hospital charities

Trust staff, patients and visitors have all played a part in raising over £1200 for hospital charities in two different ways.

The intensive care team held their annual Christmas raffle which raised over £700 to go towards specialist equipment for the unit, whilst people using the hospital restaurant contributed over £500 by putting their loose change into the collection tins to go towards the neonatal unit.

All the money raised from the collection tins will go towards helping fund life saving equipment used to treat our tiniest patients.

Yvonne Carter, charities support officer, said: “This is great, as our own staff have helped to raise this money which will benefit our patients, a big thank you goes to everyone involved, especially Mo Smith who put a lot of effort into organising the raffle.  It also demonstrates how simple ideas can generate a lot of money.  If anyone has any ideas for fundraising I am always happy to chat to them as charitable funds really do make a difference to patient care in the hospital."

Throughout the coming year all the money collected in the tins will go towards the head and neck appeal, providing equipment and amenities for patients receiving reconstructive surgery following treatment.

Mo Smith said "It's a lot of work but it's always worth it, we're all really pleased to have raised so much money which will directly benefit patients on the unit. Thanks to everyone who purchased raffle tickets and supported this year's raffle."
