The sky's the limit
Well done to Sonia Pal and Suzie Norton, midwives at Broomfield Hospital, who recently took to the skies to raise money for two well deserving charities.
The daring duo took part in a charity skydive, with Sonia raising £600 for the Neonatal death and stillborn charity at Broomfield and Suzie raising £400 for Little Haven's Children's Hospice.
Well done to you both!
Birthday celebrations at the 19th hole!
Local golf enthusiast Raymond Gardiner hit on a novel approach to share his birthday celebrations in aid of cancer patients at Broomfield Hospital.
As part of Ray’s 70th birthday festivities with family and friends at Channels Golf Club, he organised a sponsored putting competition and raised £670 for the chemotherapy unit.
Last week, Ray presented his donation to Paula Northfield, chemotherapy nurse and said: “I’m so pleased to be able to say thanks to the staff here at the unit for the care and treatment I have received so far. I know they will be able to make very good use of this extra money and means they can buy the things they need to help them with the vital work they do”.
“I would also like to say a heartfelt thanks to all my friends and family who have helped to make this donation possible and celebrate my birthday in this way”.
Ray’s friends and colleagues also chipped in £770 from their annual PEP Golf Tournament at Channels earlier in the year, bringing the grand total to £1,440 for the chemotherapy unit.
Trauma teddy brings some extra comfort to children at Broomfield
Coming to hospital is very often a difficult time for kids, but thanks to trauma teddy, a little extra comfort is close at hand.
Braintree’s local shopping centre, George Yard, shared its 21st birthday celebrations by handing out over 500 special trauma teddy bears to local children’s organisations and charities, including the children’s outpatients department at Broomfield Hospital.
The metre high mountain of hand-knitted teddies bears were created by local knitting enthusiasts following the shopping centre’s teddy bears picnic party as part of the birthday celebrations. Free packs of wool and a pattern for a trauma teddy were handed out to guests and for anyone who couldn’t knit already, some expert instructions were provided by the local craft group, The Wool Gathers.
