Ambulatory Care is a patient focussed service where some conditions may be treated without the need of an overnight stay in hospital. Patients will receive the same medical treatment they would previously have received as an inpatient. The aim of this service is to provide them with the care required to treat their condition during scheduled Ambulatory Care opening hours. The patient will than be able to return home and if further treatment is required they will be asked to return to the unit.

It is anticipated that the majority of first outpatient appointments will be referred via Choose & Book
The referral letter should be attached when making the CAB appointment or sent electronically within 2 working days of the appointment.

Booking Process - Choose and Book
When an appointment is successfully booked on the Choose and Book system a letter will be sent to the patient from Mid Essex Hospitals confirming details.
Practices may also give or post a letter to the patient from the CAB system confirming their UBRN and password.
Booking Process - Paper Referrals
When a GP referral letter is received by post or fax, Mid Essex Hospitals must offer the patient choice of appointment.
Patients are sent a letter requesting them to telephone the hospital within 7 days to negotiate their appointment.
A letter will then be sent to the patient confirming appointment details.
