Mid Essex Hospitals Trust re-appoints Non-Executive Director Nicholas Alston 

The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Nicholas Alston as Non-Executive Director of Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust.

Nick was first appointed on 14 September 2011 and was re-appointed on 18th August 2015.
He began his career as a Royal Naval Officer after reading sciences at Cambridge University. He then served as a senior civil servant in defence and security, serving as an Executive Director on the Board of his department for eight years. In 2006 he joined a leading global investment bank as a managing director, retiring in early 2011. Nick was then elected as the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex in November 2012.  He was appointed CBE in 1997.

He has lived in Chelmsford since his schooldays and has remained closely involved with the local community. He retains a strong interest in technology and sits on the Board of the Institute of Security and Crime Science at University College London. In his role as Police and Crime Commissioner he attends meetings of the Essex Health and Well-being Board.

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. 

Nicholas Alston has been appointed from 14th September 2015 until 13th September 2017 and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum.  He declared political activity on behalf of the Conservative Party, being selected as their candidate and then elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex. His term of office as PCC ends in May 2016.
