Volunteers Celebration - October 2015

A BIG Thank You to all our Volunteers!

Hylands House in Chelmsford was the setting for an enjoyable afternoon of tea and cakes this week, when Mid Essex Hospitals hosted a ‘Thank You’ event for all the many volunteers that help ensure that all patients coming to the hospital are well cared for and looked after.

The Deputy Mayor Cllr Philip Wilson, Mr Paul Foulger the Deputy Chair of the Patient Council, Chairman Professor Sheila Salmon, Acting Chief Executive Cathy Geddes and hospital board directors were all present at the event where a number of presentations took place, acknowledging the hard work and commitment given over the year by the many volunteers and organisations.

The volunteer roles within the hospital are very varied, from greeting patients at the atrium help desks to helping visitors with their wayfinding. Working in the Friend’s at Broomfield shops, helping on the wards, supporting feeding at mealtimes, these are just a few of the tasks our volunteers undertake to help complement the care given by our dedicated staff and help to make our services extra special for patients.

There was also a number of external voluntary organisations represented at this volunteer celebration event, including Centre Supporting Voluntary Action, Healthwatch Essex, Mencap, Alcoholics Anonymous, 41 Club and Friends from both hospitals, Chelmsford and Braintree.

Professor Sheila Salmon said:

“I would like to personally give a big heartfelt thank you to all of our many volunteers, who turn up to support us at the hospital in all weathers, those that attended the Volunteer Celebration at Hylands House, and the vast majority that couldn’t come along.

With their energy, care, drive and commitment, they support the hospital in so many different ways, helping our clinical and nursing staff in their daily work and providing the backup and support to help us provide enhanced care for our patients.

This event gave me, our Acting Chief Executive Cathy Geddes and my fellow directors the opportunity to come along and to give our personal thanks for all their hard work and commitment.”.
