Mid Essex Hospitals hits the Top Ten! 

 

Mid Essex Hospitals have been named as one of the top ten most improved trusts in the country in regards to patient experience.

The national inpatient survey findings, show the Trust had an improvement of +15 from last years ratings, and this reflects the drive and commitment towards improving the culture and values within the organisation.

In autumn 2015, Mid Essex Hospitals held a number of patient engagement events to help create a culture and set of values and behaviours to take forward. The feedback, given by patients and staff at a series of listening events, helped identify the values we all wanted to aspire to, the way we all wanted to be treated.

Cathy Geddes, Chief Nurse at Mid Essex Hospitals said:

"I am delighted with this news, as it shows all the patient listening events, and the feedback from our service users and staff, has made an impact on how we listen and respond to patient concerns.

"Our PALS service has received over 350 more queries this year, compared to 2015, and this is a real positive as it means we are helping resolve these patient concerns, rather than them becoming a complaint.

I would like to thank all staff here at Mid Essex Hospitals for their commitment to patient care and quality of service, and this announcement supports the good work and improvements I have seen over the last year".

Carol Anderson, Acting Accountable Officer at Mid Essex CCG, said:

“This is really encouraging news and I am delighted that patients are seeing improvements in our local healthcare and, more importantly, that their experience reflects this.

“We have been working closely with Mid Essex Hospital Services Trust (MEHT) listening to what our patients are saying, allowing us to build on what we are doing well and address areas in which we can improve.

“I would like to thank all NHS staff working across mid Essex for their hard work and dedication in helping to improve patient experience.”

CQC Inspection Feedback

 

We would first like to start by thanking all of our staff for their hard work leading up to, and during the CQC inspection. It has been a very challenging time for everyone, but the initial feedback from the CQC has highlighted how much good work has been done, and how many improvements have been put in place since the last visit in April 2015.

The themes that the CQC picked up on, as a Trust, staff were “helpful” and “very welcoming”, there was a “Transformation in staff from last inspection” and that staff were “Buoyant” and “Full of Energy”.

The inspection team also commented on how “staff were very engaged” and any issues were raised in a very positive way.

We can fully endorse what the CQC have seen this week, as we see this commitment to patient care and quality every day as we walk around the hospital. You should all be very proud of your work within your service areas, seeing how the Trust has improved clinically over the last couple of years, and this is something the CQC recognised this week.

A full report of the inspection due around mid August. We do need to maintain our top levels of care and quality for our patients, and continue to keep on improving and shining.

Appointment of Lisa Hunt, Managing Director


I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you that I've not yet met in person - and to those that I have met - thank you for the warm welcome!

As you know, Clare Panniker joined the Trust as Chief Executive and is dividing her time equally between MEHT and Basildon & Thurrock University NHS FT and devoting one day a week to lead the Success Regime.

To ensure business continuity and provide stability and leadership across the two Trusts; the role of Managing Director has been introduced at Board level and I am delighted to take up the post here at MEHT with my colleague Steve McManus in post at Basildon.

I have extensive experience and expertise at senior leadership level, across a number of acute Trusts and together with the Executive team, have already started to look at ways in which we can continue to improve and provide high quality care for patients and for all those that need to access our services.

I am aware that the Trust has been through a number of significant changes and as with all dynamic organisation there will be more to come - but all with the purpose of standing out for the 'right reasons' and being known as an organisation that lives and demonstrates the values and behaviours that you recently adopted - 'a kind, professional, positive team'.

I look forward to getting to know all at Mid Essex Hospitals better over the coming months.
