Volunteers still needed to take part in new allergy study
Adults who suffer from house dust mite induced asthma are still needed to participate in a clinical trial being run at Broomfield Hospital.
Dr Steve Jenkins, respiratory consultant and allergy specialist at Broomfield hospital, explains:” Broomfield is one of only six sites in the UK to take part in this clinical trial as we run a specialist allergy service. The aim of the trial is to investigate if an allergy vaccination (also known as immunotherapy) with a house dust mite tablet can reduce asthma symptoms and daily intake of asthma controller medication. We have decided to extend the trial into 2012, so are looking for more people to take part.”
Anyone taking part in the trial will be required to visit the clinic at Broomfield Hospital regularly and they will also be provided with asthma medication.
Dr Jenkins adds: “All we ask for people to take part is that they are aged 18 years or over, have had asthma caused by house dust mites for a minimum of one year, have used inhaled asthma medicine for a minimum of six months within the last year and haven’t been to the hospital for their asthma within the last three months other than routine out-patient appointments.”
For further information, or if you are interested in taking part, please call Sarah Williams, research nurse tel: (01245) 516921.
