Trust Chief Executive appointed as Region’s Chief Nursing Officer
Ruth May has been appointed as the new Chief Nursing Officer for the NHS East of England.
Ruth has been the Chief Executive of Mid Essex Hospitals, which runs Broomfield and St John’s in Chelmsford, since September 2007. Previously she was the Chief Executive at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. Ruth has a clinical background and has held several senior nursing positions.
Ruth said:” I am delighted to be returning to my nursing roots by taking up the post as Chief Nursing Officer for the East of England. The role of Chief Nurse has always been an aspiration of mine. .It is a great honour to be the nursing lead for the region as it is a profession that I am very passionate about. This new role will give me the opportunity to make a real difference to the nursing profession. I am really looking forward to it.”
Ruth will start her new job in July. The process of appointing a new Chief Executive for Mid Essex Hospitals will begin immediately. In the interim Philippa Lowe, Director of Finance and Resources and Deputy Chief Executive will lead the Trust.
Mike Malone-Lee, Trust Chairman, said:” Ruth has been a tower of strength during her time as Chief Executive of this Trust and we are sorry to be losing such a charismatic leader. On behalf of the Board I would like to wish Ruth well as she returns to the practice of her profession as the Chief Nursing Officer for the East of England.
