Laura lights up Broomfield Hospital for Christmas

EIGHT year old Laura Thame from Mayland, near Maldon, officially turned on the Christmas lights at Broomfield Hospital.

Laura was chosen to turn on the Hospital’s Christmas lights after winning a colouring competition to draw a picture for the Trust’s Christmas card.  The competition was open to all children who were inpatients at the hospital.  At the time Laura was a patient on moonbeam ward.

Laura said:” I am really pleased that my picture of a Christmas tree won the competition.  It was very exciting to come to Broomfield Hospital to turn on the lights on the Christmas tree.”

Laura was joined by her parents and Trust staff for the official lighting up ceremony that included a blessing from Hospital Chaplain, Rev Guy Goodall, and carols from the Chelmer Valley High School choir.

Ruth May, chief executive of Mid Essex Hospitals, said:” I am delighted that Laura could join us to switch on our Christmas lights. The Christmas tree and the lights really do brighten up the hospital site.  We are very grateful to the WRVS and League of Friends for sponsoring the tree for us and to Medirest for the Christmas lights around the restaurant.”

The Christmas tree lights at St John’s Hospital were switched on by the mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Tom Willis.
