Christmas decorations brighten up Broomfield and St John’s Hospitals
Once again the judging proved very difficult in the annual Christmas decoration competition at Mid Essex Hospitals, with entries ranging from the traditional and environmentally conscious to a bit wacky.
Members of the Hospital’s League of Friends at Broomfield and St John’s had the unenviable task of judging the entries. Barbara Coupe from the League at Broomfield said: “It’s been a magical tour for us this year from snowmen to up-side down Christmas trees, and most points in between. Staff at the hospital has literally transformed their areas into storybook scenes and they haven’t made it any easier for us to make our decision”.
After a great deal of discussion, this coveted competition was won by the outpatients department at Broomfield with their fabulous interpretation of “The Snowman” and the children’s outpatient department at St John’s for “Santa coming down the chimney”. Both winners won £100 for their department's charitable fund.
The League also chose two worthy runners up at each hospital - the recruitment office and the day stay unit at Broomfield and sunshine ward and the gynaecological department at St John’s. The radiology department represented St Peter’s hospital in the competition.
The competition was organised by the charities office, and Yvonne Carter, charities support office at Mid Essex Hospitals, said: “Once again, we’d like to thank the League members for judging the competition – it isn’t an easy task with so many brilliant entries. We’d also like to sincerely thank all those staff who took a great deal of their own time to help make our hospital a little more festive for all our patients, visitors and staff”.
