Trust Board Find Out How Clean Their Hands Really Are

Members of the Trust Board found out how clean their hands really are when they took part in a special exercise prior to Monday’s Board meeting.

They all took the “light box” test which involved washing their hands with a special gel before putting them under an ultra violet light which shows up the areas that are not clean.  The gel is then washed off with soap and water and the test repeated to see if there are any areas that were not cleaned properly.

Ruth May, chief executive, said:” This really makes you think how we often don’t wash our hands as well as we should.  Even though you might think you have washed them thoroughly there are still areas that are not clean, especially around the finger nails and between the fingers.  This is very important as good hand hygiene is key to helping us prevent hospital acquired infections, especially during this time of year when there a high numbers of people with viruses such as the winter vomiting bug.”
