Proud parents thank neonatal unit
Proud parents, Mike and Amanda Adams from Chelmsford have donated £1,500 to the neonatal unit at St John's Hospital following a naming ceremony for their daughter, Ruby.
The neonatal charity is close to their hearts as two year old Ruby was born prematurely and received care at the unit.
Amanda said: "Coming along to the unit to present the donation brought back many memories and reminds me of how very grateful we are to all the staff who cared for Ruby. This is our way of giving something back to them for the support they gave us. It’s brilliant that part of the money will go towards an ultrasound scanner and many babies I'm sure will benefit from this updated technology.”
Part of the money raised has also been used to brighten up the parent’s room, where families spend many an anxious hour.
Mike, currently the interim chairman at Mid Essex Hospitals, and Amanda celebrated their daughter’s birth with a special naming service with family and friends, and were amazed at the incredible response to their appeal for funds to the unit instead of gifts.
Toni Laing, senior sister at the neonatal unit said: "Some newborn babies need a little extra special care and our neonatal service provides intensive care for many babies each year. It’s a real bonus when families come back to visit and it's incredibly rewarding to see Ruby making such progress after such an early birth at 30 weeks. We’re immensely grateful to Mike and Amanda, not only providing us with a significant donation, but knowing how much our work with special care babies is appreciated – it's a real boost.”
