Hospital’s renal unit benefits from local generosity

The renal unit at Broomfield hospital has benefited from the generosity of staff at a local company.

Staff from BAE systems (formerly Marconi) in Chelmsford presented Mr Sumith Abeygunasekara, renal consultant and Rebecca Culpin, senior sister on the renal unit, with a cheque for nearly £400 for kidney patients at Broomfield Hospital.  The money came from the Marconi Chelmsford Employees Charities Trust Fund.

Sumith said: "We are delighted to have received this money.  It will be spent on providing kidney dialysis patients with additional comforts.  Dialysis patients usually have to undergo treatment three times per week, for four to five hours each time, so anything that helps to relieve the monotony and can make patients feel more comfortable is a bonus.   We are very grateful to everyone for the generous and continued support of the work we do."
