New award gives public the chance to thank local hospital staff
To help recognise the many care-givers who go above and beyond the call of duty, a national award has been launched to give the public a chance to say thank you.
The People’s Award for Dignity in Care has been created to officially say thank you to health and social care staff and to highlight the remarkable work they do. Anyone employed in care-giving is eligible, including nurses, porters and health care support workers, providing they have gone the extra mile to ensure dignity and respect in any area of health and social care.
Gwyneth Wilson, director of nursing at mid Essex Hospitals, said:” Ensuring our patients are treated with dignity when they come into hospital is very important to us, so we wanted to give members of the public who have used our service, or had relatives or friends who have used it, the chance to nominate individuals or teams from mid Essex hospitals for this award.”
The award celebrates individuals or teams who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide care that respects people’s dignity. Things like offering a genuinely personal service; flexibility in where or when the care is provided; a service that considers the right to privacy of people receiving care; and the encouragement of independence and self esteem.
Nominations are now open and will close on 6 March. Ten regional finalists will then be selected.
Any member of the public can nominate a member of hospital staff or care team for the Dignity in Care Awards, you can nominate at www.dignityincare.org.uk or by calling 0870 000 1100.
