Fundraising on the Fairway
Members of the Channels Golf Club in Chelmsford swung into action to raise over £7000 for the Cardiac Unit at Broomfield Hospital
As well as hosting events throughout the year such as a 40’s night and Chinese buffet evening, club members also took the opportunity to raise funds out on the golf course by making a donation every time a ball landed in the pond by the 8th hole!
Club captains Sue Mitchell and John Woodhouse, invited Dr Del Turner, consultant cardiologist and Phil Ruddock, unit manager, to the Channels End of Year Captains Ball to receive the donation.
Sue said she was amazed at the final total, stating: “We never expected to raise this much so we’re thrilled to be able to present such a large amount to the cardiac care team. Some of our own members have benefitted from the expert care they provide, so it is very rewarding to offer our support in this way. I would also like to offer a huge thank you to the members and our other golfing friends for all their support and generosity throughout the year.”
Dr Turner said: “On behalf of the cardiac care team, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to the members of the Channels Golf Club for their tremendous support and generosity over the past year, the funds they have raised will be used to purchase new medical equipment such as heart monitors for the unit which will enable us to investigate patients in a prompt and appropriate manner, which will make a huge difference to the care we provide to our patients.”
