New Trust Non-Executive Director Appointed

Stewart Wallace has been appointed by the Appointments Commission as a new non executive director of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust.  The Trust includes Broomfield and St John’s hospitals and provides acute hospital based services to a population of approximately 360,000 people who live in and around the towns of Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and Witham.

 

His appointment took effect from 14th October 2009 and he will serve on the Trust board for a period of four years.

 

Stewart qualified as a Social Worker in 1971 and has gained wide experience in the South East as a practitioner, policy advisor and senior manager before joining Harlow Council as Director of Community Services.

 

In 1992 he was appointed as Development Director at Surrey Oaklands NHS Trust and subsequently held operational responsibility as General Manager for the group. Following a short return to Social Services heading an Adult Care department, Stewart entered the private sector with Board level appointments in both health and social care organisations listed on the London Stock Exchange. Stewart lives in Wickham Bishops and has a long association with Mid Essex.

 

Mike Adams, Interim Chairman of Mid Essex hospitals, said:” I am very pleased to welcome Stewart to the Trust board.  He brings with him a great wealth of experience in both the private and public sectors which will prove extremely beneficial to the Board and the Trust.”

 

This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice (Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments).  All non executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Stewart has not declared any political activity in the past five years and does not hold any ministerial appointments.  He will receive remuneration of £6096 per annum.
