Support group for patients with a burn injury
A support group for patients who have experienced a burn injury is seeking new members.
The group, which is run by staff at the St Andrew’s centre for plastic surgery and burns in Chelmsford, meets on a monthly basis.
Jo Myers, a senior nurse in the burns unit, said:”We decided to form the group as despite there being a very good support group for children, there was nothing available in our area for adults. The aim of the group is to offer support and information to adults who have experienced a burn injury. It is led very much by patient need and their views, thoughts and feelings are essential to how the group evolves over the early months.”
The St Andrews Burn Centre provides a service to a population of 9.8 million in the Eastern region, and works closely with other burn services in the London and South East of England Burn Network. The service is internationally renowned, and patients visit from all around the world to be treated by our highly-trained specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeons.
Jo adds: “Each meeting will be held at the St Andrew’s centre and will be led by myself and a member of our psychotherapy and counselling team. There will be tea/ coffee and light refreshments available and an opportunity to talk in a supportive environment.”
The next meeting will be held on Saturday 24th April at the St Andrew’s Centre, Broomfield Hospital, and Chelmsford between 11am and 1pm.
