New midwife led birthing suite at St John’s Hospital

A new midwife led birthing suite has been introduced at St John’s hospital in Chelmsford.

The birthing suite, which has two birthing rooms and a pool room for water births, is managed by a team of midwives, led by midwife Angie Wrobel.

Georgina Sparrow, community midwifery manager at Mid Essex Hospitals, said:” We are very excited to be able to pilot this service prior to our transfer of our maternity service to Broomfield Hospital later this year, where we will run a similar service.  This new service is ideal for women who are considered to be ‘low risk’ and want to give birth in a homely environment staffed only be midwives.”

The community midwives will also be able to use the facility for delivery of their own ladies and they will also provide support and on call for the unit.
