Trust given clean bill of health by Care Quality Commission (CQC)

During an inspection in May 2010, trust staff provided the the CQC with assurance that the trust had addressed the six areas identified for improvement highlighted in previous visits and that the condition for registration had been met.  This means that the Inspectors found no evidence that the trust had breached the regulation to protect patients, workers and others from the risks of acquiring a healthcare-associated infection.

Professor Graham Ramsay, chief executive of mid Essex Hospitals services NHS Trust, said:” I am delighted that our condition has been lifted.  This is very good news for our staff and patients.  Everyone at the trust has worked very hard over the last few months to ensure all of the necessary improvements were made and having the condition on our registration lifted demonstrates to everyone that we take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously.

“Despite this we are not complacent and will continue to work hard to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained in all of our hospitals and that we continue with our exemplary record for the low number of hospital acquired infections.”

Frances Carey, Regional Director, Care Quality Commission in the East says,
“We arrived at the hospital unannounced, so we could see the wards as patients do. We noted significant improvements in cleanliness and infection control since our last inspection in February.

“Patients, visitors and staff can now experience a cleaner environment and importantly, are better protected from healthcare-associated infections.

“We have now lifted the condition on the trust’s registration and we will continue to monitor the trust to ensure that standards are maintained.”
