Fundraising event raises over £2,000 for neonatal unit

An exclusive fundraising event organised by two local mums raised over £2,000 to buy new equipment for the neonatal unit at St John's Hospital.

The "Baby Love" fundraising event, held at Springfield Parish Centre, was organised by Amanda Adams and Claire Mackaness as a way of thanking the staff on the neonatal unit for all the care they gave to their babies who were born prematurely.

Amanda, whose daughter Ruby is now three,  said: “We know from first hand experience how much the tiny babies on the unit depend on the life saving equipment, as well as the expert care staff provide, so we are really pleased to be able to support them in this way."

The money will go towards three vital signs monitors needed to give special care babies the best care possible.

Toni Laing, senior sister on the unit, said: "All of the staff here would like to say a huge thank you to Amanda and Claire for all their hard work organising this event, and for their generous donation.  It is so rewarding to know that both of their children are doing well since their time on the unit."
