New Trust Non-Executive Director Appointed
Manny Lewis has been appointed by the NHS Appointments Commission as a new non executive director of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust. The Trust runs Broomfield and St John’s hospitals and provides acute hospital based services to a population of approximately 360,000 people who live in and around the towns of Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon and Witham.
Manny’s appointment began on 1 October 2010 and he will serve on the Trust board for a period of three years.
He began his career in 1981, working as a management trainee for the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA), following his successful completion of a B.A. in law at University College London. He than gained a Masters degree in Manpower Planning before being appointed Head of Recruitment at Lewisham Council.
He moved to Waltham Forest where he was Head of Education Personnel, followed in later years with promotions to top jobs as Assistant Director for Education in Birmingham (1990), Head of Personnel and Democratic Services at Thurrock Council (1997), Executive Director, GLA (2001), Interim Deputy Chief Executive at London Development Agency (LDA) in 2003, before becoming the permanent Chief Executive in 2004. He has been the Chief Executive of Watford Borough Council since July 2009.
Sheila Salmon, Chairman of Mid Essex hospitals, said:” I am very pleased to welcome Manny to the Trust board. He brings with him a wealth of experience in HR and Personnel matters at management level that will prove very beneficial to the Board and to the Trust.”
This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice (Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments). All non executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Manny has not declared any political activity in the past five years and does not hold any ministerial appointments. He will receive remuneration of £6005 per annum.
