Volunteers donate new chairs to St Peter’s Hospital

Patients having a blood test at St Peter’s Hospital in Maldon will now be a little more comfortable for thanks to new chairs kindly donated by the ladies who run the Hospital’s tea bar.

Volunteers known as the ‘lady visitors’ run the tea bar for patients, visitors and staff and this year the profits have been used to buy two new chairs for patients having their blood tests at the hospital.

Dulcie McCormack, secretary and Shirley Wakeling, treasurer of the ‘lady visitors’ were delighted that patients are benefiting from this extra comfort.   Dulcie said: “Our 14 volunteers take it turns to man the tea bar and I know they will be pleased to see the proceeds put to such good use in the phlebotomy clinic.  We also use this money to buy Easter eggs and a Christmas stockings for all the patients – it brings a little cheer to patients at a time when they really should be close to their family and friends”.

Yvonne Carter, charities support officer for Mid Essex Hospitals joined staff in thanking the Lady Visitors for helping to enhance the patient experience.  She said: “We are immensely grateful to the Lady Visitors for their generous support, not only for helping to provide these extra chairs, but for the friendly, welcoming service they give to everyone at St. Peter’s Hospital – there’s something very reassuring about having a good cup of tea”.
