New maternity unit at Broomfield gets the thumbs up from the Royal College of Midwives

Two VIP guests gave their stamp of approval to the Broomfield Maternity unit during a recent visit.

 

Jaque Gerrard, Royal College of Midwives (RCM) UK Board Director, and Carol King Regional RCM Officer both spent a few hours at the new unit meeting staff and having a look around.  Jacque said: “The trust has done extremely well to get where they are today, with a brand new state of the art maternity unit.  It is incredibly encouraging to hear about the investment that the trust has put into its maternity services and this new unit is a credit to them, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been involved.”

 

Representatives from Anglia Ruskin’s faculty of health and social care also took the opportunity to take a look around as they work closely with the trust on the midwifery training and development.

 

Georgian Sparrow, acting head of midwifery at Mid Essex Hospitals, said: “We are delighted that two senior figures from the RCM came to take a look at our new unit.  They were very pleased with what they saw.  This is a great new facility for local women and we are getting a lot of positive feedback.”

 

The new maternity unit providesspecialist care for women at all stages of their pregnancy. Facilities include:

  • an early pregnancy assessment unit

  • an antenatal day assessment unit,

  • an antenatal clinic with specialist services for women with medical conditions such as diabetes,

  • pregnancy scanning services.

  • five delivery rooms all with en-suite facilities all equipped to encourage active birth

  • a large birthing pool.

 

The trust also runs midwife led birthing units in Braintree and Maldon.
