The Renal Unit hits the 100 mark

The Renal Unit marked a significant milestone this week, with the 100th patient registering on the Renal PatientView website.

Renal PatientView is a project of RIXG a UK group representing renal patients and the renal team. The aim of the project is to provide online information about renal patients' diagnosis, treatment, and their latest test results.

Patients can share this information with anyone they want, and view it from anywhere in the world.

There are units located around the United Kingdom but PatientView is only available from some UK renal units, and for patients who have chosen to participate.

There are approximately 40,000 patients countrywide who have registered with the system, and this online resource allows them to check anything about their condition.

Renal Consultant Dr Sumith Abeygunasekara said:

“There are a number of reasons why patients need dialysis. Hereditary factors, trauma, high blood pressure and diabetes all contribute to renal problems, and this online resource allows patients to monitor their condition.”

Mr Ricardo Santos, who works at Stanstead Airport, was happy to promote Renal PatientView, and said how it has helped him to manage his condition.

Mr Santos received a cinema voucher, funded by charitable funds, and a signed certificate from the Trust chairman, Professor Sheila Salmon in recognition of this landmark for Renal PatientView.
