Patient’s Food at Broomfield Hospital gets top marks in annual inspection
Patient food at Broomfield Hospital has received the highest rating of excellent in the annual 2011 PEAT (Patient Environment Action Team) inspection.
The inspection, carried out on behalf of the National Patient Safety Agency, covers NHS hospitals in England with more than ten inpatient beds. The teams look at standards within three main categories – environment, food, and privacy and dignity. Each category is given a rating of ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘acceptable’, ‘poor’ or ‘unacceptable’. This year Broomfield hospital scored ‘excellent’ for the quality of the patient’s food and ‘good’ for the Hospital environment and patient privacy & dignity.
Paul Aitchison, Commercial Director at Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, said:” I am extremely pleased that the outcome of this year’s PEAT assessment reflects the trust’s strategic priorities of ensuring patients that use our services have a positive experience, which includes providing a clean and tidy Hospital environment, good nutritious food and that our patients are being treated with privacy and dignity at all times. .Whilst we are pleased with the results from this year’s assessment we know that we need to keep the focus on maintaining and improving standards for the benefit of our patients.”
Each inspection is carried out by a Patient Environment Action Team which consists of local NHS staff including nurses, matrons, doctors, catering and domestic service managers, executive and non-executive directors, dieticians and estates managers. They also include patients, their representatives as well as members of the public.
