Young artists view their work hanging in Broomfield Hospital
Patients attending the urology clinics at Broomfield Hospital now have some fascinating pieces of artwork to admire thanks to some new artwork by local school children.
Eleven Children from the Bishops C&E and R.C Primary School in Chelmsford have produced pieces of abstract artwork that are now on display in the main corridor in the urology department at Broomfield hospital. The project was the brainchild of Anne Stelmaszyk – urology admin co-ordinator.
Anne explains: “The urology department has only recently moved to our new home in the South wing and we felt that we needed something to brighten up the corridor, so I suggested contacting my daughter’s school to see if they could help us and this is what happened. Everyone in the department is delighted with the results; they really do make a big difference as they are all so colourful. We hope they will make our patients smile.”
The young artists, aged between 4 and 11 years, were chosen to take part by their teachers because the showed an interest and enjoyment in art. Gregory Waters, head teacher, said: “I would like to thank the Hospital for this opportunity as producing artwork is so much better when it has a purpose and it is not everyday that our young artists are asked to produce work to be displayed in a public place such as a Hospital. Mrs laban, our art teacher came up with the idea of the children producing abstract pieces as it is something that all of the children could do, regardless of their age. The results are brilliant, you can see so much in all of the pictures. I know that the children are all very proud to have the art on display at the Hospital and we hope that patients and staff will enjoy looking at it.”
The young artists, their parents and teachers visited Broomfield Hospital recently to view their artwork which is on display in the urology corridor on level 2 of the South Wing.
