Birthday celebrations at the 19th hole!

Golf enthusiast, Raymond Gardiner from Chelmsford, hit on a novel approach to share his birthday celebrations in aid of cancer patients at Broomfield Hospital.

As part of Ray’s 70th birthday celebrations with family and friends at Channels Golf Club, he organised a sponsored putting competition and raised £670 for the chemotherapy unit.

Last week, Ray presented his donation to Paula Northfield, chemotherapy nurse and said: “I’m so pleased to be able to say thank to the staff here at the unit for the care and treatment I have received so far. I know they will be able to make very good use of this extra money and means they can buy the things they need to help them with the vital work they do”.

“I would also like to say a heartfelt thanks to all my friends and family who have helped to make this donation possible and celebrate my birthday in this way”.

Ray’s friends and colleagues also chipped in £770 from their annual PEP Golf Tournament at Channels earlier in the year, bringing the grand total to £1,440 for the chemotherapy unit.
