Broomfield Hospital’s medical training is rated as excellent

Broomfield Hospital’s medical training programme for junior doctors has been rated as one of the best in the Eastern region for providing excellent teaching and training by.senior doctors from the Postgraduate School of Medicine at the East of England Deanery.

The Deanery visit Hospitals every three years to check on the quality and delivery of the medical training.  They also ask the junior doctors for their opinion of the training via confidential feedback interviews.

The Hospital’s medical training has been run for the last three years under the watchful eye of Dr Dev Mukerjee (consultant rheumatologist)  at Broomfield Hospital and involves educational supervisors in medicine from 15 difference specialties.  Dr Mukerjee explains:  “We are particularly proud to have been commended by the Deanery for our medical training; it has gone from strength to strength.  This is due to the hard work of a number of people as it is a real team effort.  I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their help in delivering the training and to Dr Qureshi for his support as the clinical director.”

As well as providing the junior doctors with very good on the job training the Hospital was also praised for the level of support offered to the junior doctors.  The training was assessed by Dr Ian Barton, Head of School of Medicine at the Denary and Dr Andrew Douds - the regional adviser for training at the Royal college of Physicians.

Dr Anser Qureshi, clinical director for medical specialties at Broomfield Hospital said: “This is fantastic news.  The credit goes to the whole team, all physician colleagues who have worked so hard this year to provide excellent training and implement changes to improve the quality of care that we provide to our patients.”

The main responsibility of the postgraduate medical school is to commission and quality assure core and higher medical training in the East of England.

They undertake a rolling programme of school visits to all of the acute Trusts in the region to enable them to share good practice and to bring about improvements where they are needed.
