Celebrating a successful year in the new wing at Broomfield Hospital
Staff from across Broomfield Hospital got together last week to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the new Hospital wing.
The 365 bedded wing opened in November 2010 and is home to an A&E department; state of the art maternity unit and has a roof top heli deck.
Dr Ronan Fenton, Chief Medical Officer fro Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, summed up the new building by saying: “What a fantastic building it is for patient care” Dr Fenton said that he had been involved from the start to the finish of the project. “I was involved from the design stage to the reality that we have here today. The project was very complex and had a massive amount of clinical engagement which helps to make it what it is today.”
As well as enabling the Trust to introduce new ways of working and new models for delivering emergency care, the new wing means privacy and dignity for patient’s has been improved as many of the rooms have their own bathrooms. The new building has also meant that accommodation in the retained estate has been reconfigured.
Malcolm Stamp, Chief Executive of Mid Essex Hospital services, said that since the opening of the new wing the Trust has achieved levels of performance never achieved before. This includes the performance on VTE and MRSA and cancer waiting times, for which we are currently the best in Essex.
Malcolm also praised the involvement of patient groups, like the Patient Council. He said: “They provide a different pair of eyes to make sure we get things right and that we always listen to the patient's views, this is very important to making what we achieve sustainable.” He concluded by saying that we have a great facility and look forward to serving patients in the future and receiving their feedback.”
