How long will I spend in clinic?
For an initial appointment you will need to keep at least an hour clear, subsequent appointments, although not always necessary, are usually much quicker.
Will my G.P. be informed that I have attended clinic?
We do not routinely share any information about you with your GP or any other organisation, this includes mortgage & insurance companies. If we feel that it would be helpful to your care to share information with another healthcare professional, we will seek your consent. We will not provide any information without your consent. Although this is a confidential service, it is not anonymous, you will need to provide at least a name & date of birth (it does not have to be your real name, but you will have to remember it so as to obtain any information or test results).
Can I eat & drink prior to my appointment?
Yes. The only preparation for your appointment, is that if you are male that you do not pass urine for 2 hours prior to your appointment time. This is not necessary if you are female.
When and how will I get my test results?
This will be arranged on an individual basis, you will be able to collect your results in person, by telephoning the clinic or we can text or e-mail your results to you.
Do I have to wait 3 months to have a HIV test?
The current method of hiv testing used at this clinic (and all other similar clinics in the u.k.), measures the hiv antibodies in a blood sample. It can take up to 3 months for your body to develop these antibodies, this is known as the window period. It may not be appropriate to do a HIV test until the 3 months are up. This will be discussed on an individual basis, and a risk assessment carried out. We now offer routine HIV testing to all patients attending clinic.
