Planning Your Journey 

The links below will be useful to those travelling to the Broomfield site.


By Car


Car parking is available for visitors and patients, however it is in great demand and so between the hours of 9am to 2 pm please leave in plenty of time as it is sometimes difficult to park. Alternatively, if possible please consider alternative ways of getting to the Trust.

Weekly parking tickets are available at a reduced rate. Please visit the car park office to buy a long-stay ticket.


We operate a pay and display car park, and our car park ticket machines are cash only and do not give change.


There is a change machine by Cashiers Office in the Atrium.

By Bus


From the Broomfield Site, bus links to the town centre also cover some major local residential areas, with a direct service to :


  • The Woodhall Estate, Melbourne, Springfield Park and Chelmer Village (no. 47) and

  • Galleywood (no. 42)


From the town centre, you can catch a bus to any major local residential area. Other services connect the town centre and Broomfield Hospital with areas out to :


  • Wethersfield (including Stebbing and Felsted, no.16)

  • Great Waltham, Great Dunmow and Stansted Airport (no.42A)

  • Pleshey and Little Waltham (no.52)

  • Black Notley and Terling (off peak only, no.344) and

  • Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford (no.70/70X)


By Train


The hospital has excellent, frequent public transport links to the mainline railway station, with regular rail services to stations between London Liverpool Street and Ipswich. Services are provided by National Express train services.






The Trust offers a range of facilities from shops and restaurants to patient entertainment systems.

There is also a League of Friends shop (in the South wing at entrance "A") which opens weekdays from 9am until 8pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 11 am and from 2pm until 4.30pm.


They sell newspapers, toiletries, stamps, gifts and refreshments, plus mobile phone top up cards, and they accept credit and debit cards.


A trolley service operates (subject to volunteers availability) on the wards selling sweets, drinks and newspapers to patients.


Cash Point, Post Box and Pay Phones


Cash dispensers and post boxes are located inside entrances C and F. Pay phones are at various locations around the site.




Hospedia is a service available to Patients throughout the hospital, offering Free radio and a variety of TV Packages which include free outbound calls to 01,02 and 03 numbers for the duration of any package brought. Also included in the package are free games and internet access.


Card machines are located around the hospital, as well as Hospedia Representatives visiting wards daily to assist with any problems or to help purchase credit. They can also advise you on the best package for your stay. You can also pay by Debit or Credit card. Hospedia staff are on site Monday- Friday 9-6.30pm and Saturdays 9-2pm.
