Voluntary Services

Do you have some spare time available?

Do you enjoy helping people?

Want to make a contribution to your

local community?

If so, why not consider joining Mid Essex Hospitals as a volunteer in one of the many areas available.

Volunteers make a valued and valuable contribution to the Trust through their skills, experience and boundless enthusiasm, which compliments the work of our existing staff. The overall aim of the volunteers service is to help to improve the patient and visitor experience.

In addition, taking part as a volunteer can also benefit the individual, who will find that they are able to reap rewards by:

  • Taking part for philanthropic reasons - gain a sense of satisfaction for helping others.

  • Becoming involved with the local community.

  • Having the opportunity to make new friends and be part of a team.

  • Gaining work experience within a busy hospital.

  • Developing your CV and improving your employability.

  • Increase your confidence levels.

Volunteers at Mid Essex cover a wide range of areas within the hospital,

this includes:

  • Mealtime Companions

  • Anti-Coagulation Clinic Hostess

  • Discharge Lounge Hostess

  • Wheelchair whizz (help collect wheelchairs and push patients to clinics)

  • Administrative & clerical areas

  • Reception areas (Help Desk)

  • Chaplaincy

Please note that volunteers work in a purely supportive capacity - they will not be asked to provide any clinical care to patients or take on tasks that are the main duties of a paid worker.

There are a number of documents currently available on the Trust website relating to the process of joining the volunteers service.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please take the opportunity to read this information. A number of the volunteer job roles are also available for viewing – to find out more, please click on the link located on the left hand side of this page.

All volunteers are subject to standard recruitment procedures, as detailed in the Voluntary Services Guide (available to download at the bottom of this page).
