Membership is free and open to all Mid Essex NHS, Mental Health and Social Care staff and students on placement. Please visit the library to join, and remember to keep us updated of any changes to your address, email or telephone number. All members receive a library card containing a username and PIN - please keep this safe.
By joining the library you are agreeing to adhere to our Membership and Loans Policy.
If you are responsible for new starters in your department please remember to bring them over to the library as part of their induction.

Patient / Public
If you have an information query that cannot be answered via clinical staff or the patient information provided to you, you may contact the Warner Library for advice on further sources of information. If you wish to visit in person it is advisable to telephone first to ensure a member of library staff is available to assist you. Out of Hours Access
There is 24 hour access to the upstairs CAL suite and study area for MEHT staff.
The Warner Library offers access to a host of electronic resources including databases such as MEDLINE, Embase and CINAHL, electronic books and electronic journals. Register for an NHS Athens account and then access e-resources from EEL.

The Warner Library offers a free training programme to help you access electronic resources and search effectively for evidence to support your patient care, CPD, and studies. Critical Appraisal training helps you decide if the research you read is valid and trustworthy before you apply results to your patients.
You can book on a training course, held in the CAL Suite, or book your own individual information consultation for specific help with an evidence search.

All training courses, including Critical Appraisal, can be run for specific groups and departments, either in the CAL Suite or in your own Department or training room. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and arrange a time.
This is located upstairs and has a study area, networked PCs and access to four non-networked PCs for personal use - ideal if you want to check your email or Facebook during your lunch break! There is 24 hour access for staff to the CAL suite and study area for MEHT staff.
Literature search requests
We will carry out an evidence search on your behalf to inform patient care, research and service development. This service is for library members, but not available to students on placement. To request a literature search please contact Warner staff. Please give as much information as possible about your search topic, including the reason for the search, the age group involved (if applicable), and how many years you would like the search to cover.
We provide timely answers to any healthcare information-related questions for all staff members. Please just ask one of our team and they will get back to you with an answer as quickly as possible.
Warner Library Book Catalogue
Most books may be borrowed by library members for 4 weeks, but can be renewed, provided that they have not been requested by anyone else. Please log into the Warner Library Catalogue with your username and PIN to renew your books.
Books can be returned to the library or left in the secure red book deposit box outside the Medical Academic Unit.

Special Collection: Values
The Library has a collection of books, funded by Health Education East of England, to support the Values Based Care Project. These are available for staff to borrow. Click here for a leaflet outlining the titles available.
Special Collection: Health and Wellbeing
The Library has a collection of self help books on common conditions, such as anxiety, depression and chronic pain. The titles have been selected in consultation with the Occupational Health team. Please click here to access a leaflet.
Special Collection: Fiction
To complement the Health and wellbeing collection, the library also has a collection of mood boosting fiction and poetry. A list of titles is available here.
The 2016 mood boosting collection of uplifting fiction, poetry and non-fiction books are now available to borrow. Click here for a list.
We also welcome donations of fiction to add to the collection.
Inter-library loans and document supply
If we don't have the book or article you need, we may be able to get it for you through our inter-library loan network. This service is available to all Warner Library members.
For a journal article request, please first check the Journals list to see if you can access the journal and article article yourself. You will need an NHS Athens password to do this.
To make a request, please login on ELMS with your username and PIN and click "Make a Request". Complete the form for either a journal article request or a book request. There may be a charge for some inter-library loans - a member of the team will contact you if there is.

This gives quick access to the table of contents from a wide range of journals - most of them are also accessible using your Athens username and password. Just click on your subject of interest from the tabs across the top of the page.
To set up alerts to journals of interest please use JournalTOCS - it is free to register and you can then select the journals you wish to follow. You will then receive by email the table of contents from your selected journals. Please contact us if you would like help setting up your alerts.
The Warner Library offers tailored current awareness to Trust staff on request. if you wish to keep up to date with a particular subject please contact us to discuss your requirements.
