Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to providing work experience placements for school and college students. This provides an opportunity for students to explore possible careers within the NHS and find out more about the working environment.

Some of the departments include:

• Wards (16+ years only)

• Occupational Health Department

• Human Resources

• St. Andrew's Outpatients Department (16+ years only)

• Pharmacy

• IT Department

Please note that some of the placements available carry an age restriction due to the nature of the work involved in the area and in order to comply with the Young Person at Work Policy and Health & Safety legislation. 

There is an administration fee of £40 once the placement has been confirmed with the Voluntary Services Department and must be paid in full before the placement can take place.

General guidelines for work experience:

• Students must be aged 16 or over to obtain a placement in a clinical area, due to the nature of the work involved.

• The minimum age for an administrative and clerical placement within the hospital is 15 years.

• Placements shadowing doctors are only available to A’ Level students and above who are applying to medical school.

• Please allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks for your application to be processed. If you have not received a response after this time your application has been  

  unsuccessful.  

• Work experience is undertaken at the student’s own expense - no accommodation or travel expenses are available to students.

• Priority is given to applicants from the Mid Essex region

to accept an application.
