Registered Charity 1144843
The Friends of Braintree Community Hospital was founded and set up by volunteers in 2011; it's aims:
- to raise funds to support the work of the hospital,
- improving patient comfort and care,
- and to provide a voice for the health needs of people in Braintree.
Since becoming a charity, it is surprising how many contributions from the Friends, have been donated to the hospital, enabling the purchase of ward equipment, garden supplies and toys for the outpatient waiting areas. The Friends have also made donations to a number of health related local Braintree charities.
The largest project funded by the Friends, was the purchase of an additional defibrillator for the ground floor of the hospital. This has proved to be an invaluable purchase.
Becoming a Friend and Volunteer!
The aim of the Friends is to raise funds to operate our shop and purchase items for the wards / hospital, and to make everything more welcoming for patients and visitors to the hospital. We also support other health related charities.
The shop is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm, and Saturday morning 9.00am - 12.30pm. We sell newspapers, confectionary, toiletries, cards and second hand books.
Working on the Ward
We take a trolley to the Courtauld ward, Monday to Saturday between 10.00am and 12.00 noon. A trolley is also taken to St Michael's Centre, Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 11.00am. We sell newspapers, confectionary, drinks and toiletries etc, and talk with the patients, helping them with any queries.
Some volunteers visit patients on the wards between 9.00am and 5.00pm, chatting to them on an informal basis.
Meet and Greet
We welcome patients to the hospital, helping them sign in and assisting them with directions, finding the ward or department they are looking for.
