Roofing suppliers AJW pitched and putted their way past their £10,000 fundraising target for Mid Essex Hospitals Charity’s Phoenix ward fund with a golf day in Cambridge.
AJW nominated the Phoenix ward fund as their charity of the year as AJW employee Shaun Hart’s son Harrison has a rare form of life-threatening epilepsy and regularly attends Phoenix for treatment.
The Cambridgeshire Golf Club played host to 19 teams of AJW’s suppliers and customers. With the course in immaculate condition and the sun shining, the teams enjoyed a sociable 18 holes with prizes on offer for best individual and team scores, longest drive, best putting and nearest the pin.
After the final putt had been holed, the players retired to the clubhouse for a presentation, raffle and auction, and a speech from Harrison’s mum Debbie Hart.
Callum Male was crowned the player of the day with the four-ball from Steve Austwick Group winning the team prize.
The fantastic total was thanks to the AJW team securing sponsorship for every hole on the course and over £4,500 was made from the raffle and auction alone.
Prizes were donated by Grantchester Tea Rooms, Saffron Walden Golf Course, Gog Magog’s Golf Course and Cambridge United Football Club. There were also a number of signed football and rugby shirts to be won that were kindly gifted by ex-Cambridge, Southend and Fulham goalkeeper Malcolm Webster.
Charlotte Jefcoate, fundraising coordinator at Mid Essex Hospitals Charity, said: “We are so fortunate to have AJW fundraising for us. To have raised over £10,000 so far this year so far is amazing and I’d like to thank Charlotte Woods and everyone at AJW for organising such a brilliant golf day.
