Former patient Dawn Hall held a coffee morning that raised an impressive £575 for the Breast unit.
Dawn who had a mastectomy in 2009 was joined by her colleagues at catering equipment suppliers CCE Group in Langdon Hills for hot drinks, homemade cake and a raffle.
“I had my surgery on the 13 August 2009. The matron who treated me, Leigh, was really brilliant, and all the nurses were brilliant, as were the doctors,” said Dawn.
“The care that everyone gave me, especially my surgeon Mr Baggot, was excellent. They said the mastectomy he did on me was the best he had ever done. I kept being woken up every time I tried to go to sleep because all the doctors and nurses on shift wanted to have a look! It was absolutely fantastic.
“I couldn’t fault breast care and people that I’ve known who have come here after me have all have good care as well.
“In the raffle we had bottles of booze, cakes, and picture frames, and one of our customers donated a £75 gift voucher towards a meal so I raffled that as well. For a company of 40-odd people to raise £575 between us is really good.”
Charlotte Jefcoate, fundraising coordinator at Mid Essex Hospitals charity, said: “It’s fantastic that Dawn is still fundraising for us a decade on from her treatment. The Breast unit and the St Andrew’s Centre do brilliant work and it’s was great to hear Dawn had such a positive experience. It just shows how much of an impact our doctors, nurses and surgeons have on our patients. I'd like to thank Dawn and everyone at CCE Group for their generosity.”
