Mayor’s charity quiz night raises £1,300

Mayor's Quiz

The Mayor of Chelmsford’s charity quiz night raised over £1,300 for Mid Essex Hospitals’ Dementia Project and Kids Inspire.

Old Chelmsfordians’ pavilion was packed out as fifteen teams battled for supremacy over an intense twelve rounds of questions which tested the teams' knowledge of everything from the height of famous landmarks to Beatle George Harrison’s date of birth.

The lead changed hands several times over the course of the evening but the Rotary Club of Chelmsford eventually triumphed and took home the coveted first prize – a selection of wines.

Mayor of Chelmsford Cllr Yvonne Spence hailed the event as a big success: “It was a really good evening. Everyone enjoyed it and we’ve made lots of money for the charities. Chris and Wendy Hibbert did a fantastic job organising and I’d like to thank Old Chelmsfordians for hosting us, and everyone who came along.”

Anne Moriety, captain of the victorious Rotary Club of Chelmsford, said: “We didn’t expect to win. We’re very grateful. It was a fantastic opportunity to get together and we loved every minute.”

The money raised will be split between the Mayor’s two chosen charities and Charlotte Jefcoate, fundraising coordinator at Mid Essex Hospitals Charity, added: “It was great to see so much support from the community. The mayor’s fundraising will make a big difference to the lives of people and families living with dementia. We have a series of great events with the mayor coming up and are particularly excited about the charity walk in Hylands Park on May 12.”
