Easter weekend was eggceptional this year as we received a mountain of chocolate eggs for patients and staff.
Student nurse Sophie Draycott amazed colleagues by bringing in an incredible 272 Easter eggs after she approached local businesses for donations. Morrisons, the Co-Op, Next and the Royal Mail all gave generously after responding to Sophie’s online appeal.
Sophie, who graduates from Anglia Ruskin next year and is currently working on Children’s Burns, said she “just wanted us to have something to give the children when they come in for treatment”.
We also received eggs from the team at The Gym Chelmsford, the Rotary Club of Chelmer Bridge, Nuffield Health, Stansted Airport Fire and Rescue, and Miss Essex Atlantic finalist Tamara Lea Plaster.
Yvonne Carter, Mid Essex Hospitals Charity manager, said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the local groups who came in. We had over 800 eggs in total donated and on Good Friday, we visited as many wards as we could. Everyone we gave eggs to was absolutely delighted. It shows just how much people appreciate the work the hospital does and we thank everyone who donated for their kindness – it makes a huge difference.”
