Wendy Matthews, our director of nursing, has been recognised for her contribution to nursing with an honorary doctorate from the University of East London (UEL).
Wendy, who was awarded an OBE in 2018 for her work in transforming the maternity services at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, received the honour from UEL chancellor Shabir Randeree at the college of applied health’s graduation ceremony at the ExCeL centre in London.
In her speech to the hall, Wendy encouraged graduates to look after each other, work collaboratively and embrace diversity.
Wendy said: “I was so humbled and honoured to receive my honorary doctorate, and I would like to thank everyone at the University of East London.
“As a nurse, you can make such a difference to people’s lives and it was a real privilege to be able to share my experiences with the graduates who are at the beginning of their nursing careers.
“The University of East London is an innovative, creative and dynamic place to study and I hope in the future we may see some of their nurses working alongside us here at Broomfield.”
