Mid and South Essex Hospital’s group is celebrating the amazing difference volunteers make to patients every day during this year’s national volunteers week, which runs from 1-7 June, and telling people about all the fantastic volunteering opportunities.
As part of the celebrations an afternoon tea and achievement awards was held on Tuesday for volunteers at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital at Reid’s in Billericay. A further event is planned for Southend Hospital volunteers on Thursday 6 June at Saxon Hall. Mid Essex’s hospital’s thank you event for volunteers takes place later in the year at Chelmsford City Racecourse.
There are now over 800 registered volunteers working across our hospitals in more than 30 different roles. A recent audit found that out that our generous volunteers give up nearly 3,000 hours a week to support patients.
Our volunteers help with a wide range of tasks from conducting surveys to meet and greet services, mealtime assistance and pastoral care, which all complement the clinical services provided by the Trust.
Many hours are also given towards fundraising activities organised both through the hospital charities, and charities that are linked to particular departments and wards.
