Free-to-Patient Wi-Fi launched at Broomfield Hospital

Broomfield Hospital, part of Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, has launched a new free to patients Wi-Fi service. The service has been funded by ‘Our Charity’ and offers 24-7 full streaming access for people visiting the hospital and patients on our wards.

Patients who visit Broomfield Hospital will have free access to WiFi to use on their mobile phones or tablets, thanks to funding provided by the hospital’s charitable funds.  Our Charity Trustees were delighted to support this important project to implement WiFi access across the hospital site, based on the existing contractual relationship with Hospedia.

Our new Wifi solution for patients is now fully funded for the first year and our Charity will continue the fundraising drive to raise even more money to ensure our patients have access in years to come.   For many patients who frequently visit the hospital, such as those with repeated outpatient visits, a series of chemotherapy treatments or dialysis, their patient experience will be significantly improved with access to WiFi.

Broomfield Hospital is the latest in a growing number of hospitals providing free Wi-Fi to patients, visitors and staff, which helps to further improving the patient experience – with patients saying that Wi-Fi helped during their stay in hospital, and visitors stating that they have a higher opinion of hospitals with free Wi-Fi provision.

The service at Broomfield Hospital is provided by Hospedia in conjunction with The Cloud and the Trust is the latest in a growing number of NHS Trusts selecting Hospedia as their Wi-Fi partner.

The Hospedia Wi-Fi service provides a familiar, easy to use interface, which provides a personalised landing page for our hospital, links to both hospital and charity information and opportunities to complete the friends and family test.

In addition, due to its partnership with The Cloud (Europe’s largest Wi-Fi provider) users of the service can quickly and easily access the thousands of Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots throughout the UK once they leave hospital, including at venues such as Marks & Spencer, the City of London, Wetherspoons, PizzaExpress, Caffe Nero, Eat, pubs, leisure facilities, restaurants and mainline stations.

Acting Chief Executive, Cathy Geddes said:

“We are delighted to be able to provide free Wi-Fi access at our hospital to both our patients and their visitors. Patients with us for longer stays will benefit from this opportunity to keep in touch with friends and family via e-mail and social media, and I would like to thank ‘Our Charity’ here at Mid Essex for providing the funding to make this happen. There is also the opportunity for patients to let us know about the care they received during their stay by completing the online Friends and Family test.”

Chief Information Officer at the Trust, Martin Callingham said:

“Thanks to the generous funding from ‘Our Charity’, Broomfield Hospital is now able to offer free Wi-Fi access to all patients and visitors on site, with the platform being provided by the partnership between Hospedia and The Cloud.

Hospedia are the Trust’s provider for bedside entertainment packages, showing a variety of films and TV series, and with the addition of our free Wi-Fi access for all, this will hopefully enhance our patients experience during their stay in our care.”
