Trust Supports National Dignity Action Day

Mid Essex Hospitals is this year holding a day long event Broomfield Hospital, supporting National Dignity Action Day. Healthwatch Essex are joining us on the day in their video blogging taxi; to allow patients and staff the chance to be filmed in the back of the cab, ‘What dignity means to me’ and how we can continue to improve Dignity in Care

The various events and lectures throughout the day, both in the MAU and Atrium highlight how the Trust looks to embed its values and promotes dignity, care and respect, and there will be a dignity stand raising awareness of dignified clothing in the atrium, allowing charitable donations to supply clothing to patients admitted to the hospital in an emergency.

Angela Wade, Professional Development Lead Nurse and Dignity Lead, who is co-ordinating the day’s events, said:

“This is an extremely important national action day that the Trust always supports passionately.  Over 450 of our staff are signed up as Dignity Champions who are proud to role model and positively challenge; ensuring that being treated with dignity is a basic human right and not an optional extra.

Every member of staff has an impact on patient care.  It is not just down to the clinical and nursing staff; we want respect and dignity at the heart of the service and everything which the Trust provides."

Ashley Brooks, National Patient Champion who has an inspirational, insightful and honest approach to patient care is joining us as the key speaker, and there will be dignity champions sharing their successes, improvement presentations and learning sessions.

We will be continuing to gain feedback from staff about our values and behaviours be developed from our Culture week, and will be holding a further patient listening event “in your shoes” to help us improve patients’ dignity on the day.

There are two very important 2 awards to celebrate dignity in care at MEHT: Dignity champion of the year and Dignity team of the year, and the winners will be invited as special quests to receive their awards at the prestigious staff Awards (OSCAs) ceremony in April.
