By bus

There is a bus stop outside the main hospital atrium entrance and there are numerous bus routes servicing the hospital from across the area and further afield across mid and south Essex.

Park and Ride

Chelmer Valley - Broomfield Hospital Park and Ride Shuttle Bus

Essex County council and Mid Essex Hospitals Services NHS Trust are offering a community link service between Chelmer Valley Park and Ride and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford. 

Monday to Friday.

Every 23 minutes between the two sites.

First bus leaves at 6.37am from Chelmer Valley Park and Ride car park.

Last bus leaves at 18.40pm from Broomfield Hospital.

Chelmsford Community Transport

Do you need transport to get to hospital or other NHS services?
Covering Chelmsford with their wheelchair accessible minibuses - and across Essex in their volunteer cars

Chelmsford Community Transport is a patient transport scheme provided by volunteers for patients and their families who have difficulty getting to and from their hospital appointment. As well as journeys to the hospital, the service also covers many clinics across mid Essex run by Broomfield Hospital.

They offer:

  • Minibuses free using your concessionary bus pass
  • Door to door service 
  • Affordable prices
  • Friendly DBS checked drivers
  • Assisted trips available 
  • Small registration fee applies

By train

Rail company Greater Anglia operates frequent trains to Chelmsford station where a bus can be caught direct to Broomfield Hospital. Ask for a plus bus ticket before travelling. This will include both your bus and train fares and save you time on your journey.

Car parking is available for patients and visitors’, however it is in great demand and therefore we recommend that between the hours of 9am to 2pm you leave in plenty of time as it may be difficult to park. Alternatively, if possible, please consider alternative ways of getting to the Trust.

Visitors of inpatients expecting to be in hospital for longer than 7 days

Visitors of patients that have been an inpatient for longer than four weeks

Two passes per patients  - free of charge

Swan Initiative (families of patients on the end of life pathway)

Concessionary tickets available for two cars per patient

£3 daily ticket / £15  seven day ticket

*Concessionary tickets are non-refundable

How to claim

For full information and advice please speak to the staff at the cashiers office near the main hospital reception desk in the atrium. Office hours 08.30 to 16.30.

We operate a pay and display car park. Our car park ticket machines are cash only and do not give change. Please use the cash machine by cashiers office.

There are many different locations across our sites that offer drop off and disabled parking. Below you can download a map of all the disabled parking and drop off areas.
