Medical Academic Unit (MAU)

Learning and developemnt

The MAU is our education hub for our staff. 

We have a wide range of facilities and areas available, including two lecture theatres which can accommodate scale study days and conferences. We can also facilitate video conferencing.

Elective students

If you're interested in completing an elective placement at Broomfield Hospital, please download, print and complete the below forms. Please then scan and send them back to medical.students@meht.nhs.uk.

The following options are available for you to go into: Medicine: Renal, Cardio, Respiratory, Gastro, Early Assessment Unit and A&E. Surgery: Upper GI, Lower GI, Breast and Vascular. ITU is also available, as well as The St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns which is an extremely popular elective option. However, placements will only be accepted after they have been reviewed by the consultant. Please ensure a copy of your CV is attached to the email with your application forms.

General Practice (GP) Training

We offer GP specialist training programme based at Broomfield, the Linden Centre, Crystal Centre and Farleigh Hospice. Specialist training posts are available across the hospital.

The three-year rotation culminates with the year in General Practice where the learning will continue and take the MRCGP exams, which will allow you to practice as a General Practitioner. 

The programme ranges from traditional medical topics to alternative medicine and debate on current political issues in the NHS. Read more here.
