Basildon Hospital car park barrier and payment
A car park barrier and payment system operates at Basildon Hospital, The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre and Orsett Hospital.
The barriers work on automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). The number plate recognition system will log your vehicle registration number and raise the barrier as you enter the car park.
Before returning to your car, please go to the payment machine. You will be asked to enter your car registration number and the correct payment which can be paid by cash or by credit/debit card.
The barrier will lift when you exit the car park.
Broomfield Hospital car park barrier and payment
The car park barriers and payments work on automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). The number plate recognition system will log your vehicle registration number and raise the barrier as you enter the car park.

You will be asked for your car registration number and the correct payment which can be paid by cash, credit/debit card, contactless or Glide https://www.glideparking.com a car parking app which can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play.
The barrier will lift when you exit the car park.
Southend Hospital car parks, pay and display or pay online
Patients and visitors have two options for paying for parking at Southend Hospital.
Using the pay and display machines: On arrival, pay for your ticket using cash or contactless payment at a parking machine and display the ticket in your vehicle.
QR code scanning: On arrival, pay for your parking by scanning the QR code on the machine or car park signage. This will take you to a website where you can enter your vehicle details and make payment using a credit or debit card. When paying this way there is no need to display anything in your vehicle – your payment will be automatically tracked.
What if I have a problem?
Each pay station and exit barrier has a button linked to a member of the car park/security staff, who will be able to help you.
Parking charges
From 5 June we are making parking charges the same at all of our hospitals sites. The new daily prices are
Up to 30 minutes free
Up to 2 hours £3.10
Up to 3 hours £4.00
Up to 5 hours £5.00
Up to 6 hours £6.00
Over 6 hours £10.00
Free parking permits (parking concessions) at our hospitals
Permits to allow free parking (parking concessions) are available to these patients and visitors:
- Parent or guardian of children who are staying overnight in hospital
- Chemotherapy patient (see notes below for specific information)
- Renal patient (see notes below for specific information)
- End of Life care and bereavement visitors
- Parent or guardian of children who are seriously ill or awaiting transfer to another hospital (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and paediatrics)
- NICU parents or guardians
- Pregnancy Pal / Birth Buddy
- Dementia patient carers
Please talk to a member of staff in the ward or department to obtain a Free Parking Permit application form.
Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS)
If you're referred to hospital or other NHS premises for specialist NHS treatment or diagnostic tests by a doctor, dentist or another primary care health professional, you may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS).

Free parking information for chemotherapy and renal patients
Broomfield hospital
Renal and chemotherapy patients
Please park in a designated bay in car park 2 and speak to the department you are visiting for a dedicated permit. If parked in the main Multi-storey Car Park, please ask the department you are visiting to notify the car parking team and provide them with your vehicle registration number to allow free exit.
Basildon hospital
Renal patients
Please park in a designated Renal Unit bays and speak to the staff in the department to obtain a free parking permit.
Chemotherapy patients
Please park in any public car park and speak to staff in the department to obtain a free parking permit form.
Southend hospital
Renal and chemotherapy patients
Please park in the dedicated car park off Carlingford Drive, using the intercom on entry and exit.
Parking information for Blue Badge holders
Parking is free for Blue Badge holders at all hospital sites. Please see the notes below for more information about Blue Badge parking at each of our sites.
Basildon hospital
Please take your Blue Badge to the car parking office in the main car park, or security office at the main entrance. The team will record your vehicle registration and Blue Badge number. Once registered you can exit the car park without charge by using the intercom.
Broomfield hospital
Please display your badge clearly when parked in a designated area. When you are ready to leave please enter your vehicle registration number into the pay station and when prompted to pay select ‘Blue Badge’ and enter last 6 characters of your Blue Badge number – this will discount the parking session to £0 and you can exit the car park without charge.
Register your badge with us (Broomfield only)
If you are a Blue Badge holder you can register your blue badge details with us by visiting the cashier’s office in the main atrium between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, please take your blue badge to show them. This will give free access to the hospital parking up to the expiry date of your badge.

If you change your car registration at anytime you will need to update your details.
You can still use the payment machine in the car park for daily parking.
Southend hospital
Use the intercom on your way out of the car park and confirm that you are a Blue Badge holder. The car parking team will raise the barrier for you to exit without charge.
Free parking permit terms and conditions
- The parking concession will only be granted if the qualifying criteria applies.
- The form must be signed by a Macmillan Nurse, ward/departmental manager or senior nurse in charge where the patient or relative is being treated or visited.
- The concession will be issued for a maximum of two weeks.
- Once the application is approved the concession will be operational on the day the vehicle is registered.
- The concession will automatically be removed at the end of the allocated period.
- The parking concession may be extended on completion of an additional registration form, which must be authorised before it is granted.
- The Free Parking Permit allows the registered vehicle access to the hospital patient/visitor car parks only.
- Please return the completed form to
- Basildon - the Car Park office in the Multi Storey Car Park or Security office behind main reception. Staff can also return the form electronically on your behalf
- Southend - the ID badge office/Car Park office in Cardigan Wing. Staff can also return the form electronically on your behalf.
- Broomfield – the Cashiers Office at the main entrance. Staff can also return the form electronically on your behalf.
